What does it take to pickle a cucumber? The simplest form takes a cucumber, seasonings, vinegar, and time.
This next season of my life will be a time of pickling. Now, I know everyone is probably very confused by this statement, so allow me to explain.
While I have thought that I was finished with my preparation, God has said He has more for me to learn and grow in before I am ready to fully fulfill the long-term calling He has placed on my life. So He is sending me through a pickling/preparation season to further prepare me for His call and purpose. For this season, I will be moving to Gainesville, Georgia to participate in an apprenticeship program through Adventures in Missions called the Center for Global Action or CGA.
You are probably now asking what this apprenticeship program looks like. This next “year” (September – May) will be spent in intentional community, discipleship, and learning. My mornings will be filled with adult learning style classes with the rest of my peers while my afternoons will be filled with the apprenticeship portion. I will be living in community with several other ladies participating in the same program. This is an opportunity to learn how to take everything I did and learned on the Race and figure out how to apply and live it out within the confines of American culture and a 9-5 job. Even if this cultural context is not where I end up, it is definitely a culture I have to learn to navigate for periods of time, so why not learn now.
And that’s the overview of what my year looks like.
Whenever I have gotten to share about this next journey, people have asked if I will be paid for this apprenticeship. My answer is that I receive a stipend from the money I fundraise. So yes, I get paid, but only if I fundraise the money needed for that to come through. The money I raise will cover my housing costs for the year as well as a monthly stipend for food.
While fundraising is one of my least favorite things to do along my journeys, I know that is a tool that God uses to show His faithfulness and to continue to teach me to trust Him and the call He has placed on my life.
So with that in mind I would ask you to prayerfully consider joining me on this next adventure of learning and life. I cannot do it without your support. For this next season I need to raise $7,450. This is much less than what was needed for last year! 🙂 Taking international travel out helps a great deal with lowering the cost of living for a year.
