This week during Community time our speaker was sharing about the lies we tell ourselves. We spent time reflecting on these lies that we daily tell ourselves. These lies keep us from living fully and confidently in the identity that Christ has given us.
Now you may be asking what are the lies that I struggle with…
Here are a few that I wrestle with consistently
1. I don’t have authority.
2. My words don’t have power.
I know these may seem very strange, but these are the lies that I am constantly fighting inside of my head and heart.
Now, you may be wondering about the title of this blog and how me sharing these lies with you has anything at all to do with the Lion King. Let me assure you, they go together beautifully.
You see, there is a scene in the Lion King that God constantly reminds me of when I allow these lies to plague me and affect who I am and how I live my life. It’s the scene where Simba is in the elephant graveyard and the hyenas are getting ready to attack. Simba begins to roar with his cute little cub voice. At this point, the hyenas continue to advance and are making fun of him. He doesn’t stop trying. Then all of a sudden, Simba roars, and this powerful roar echos through the cave. It startles him and the hyenas. The scene then shows that it is Mufasa’s voice/roar that is heard. Even though the hyenas were seeing Simbas mouth move, they were hearing his father Mufasa.
This is what Papa says that He does for me. He speaks through me with power and love. It is my job simply to speak. He will give my words power, because they will be His words. He will give my words meaning, because they are His words. He gives me authority, because He has the authority.
“…All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” – Matthew 28:18
And because He lives in me, that authority has been given to me as well. I simply have to believe it, claim it as my own, and walk in it.
So my question for you is: What are the lies that you are struggling with? Take a moment and allow God to speak into those and to turn those lies into the truths of His word. It’s in allowing this to happen that I can declare:
1. I HAVE AUTHORITY!
2. MY WORDS HAVE POWER!
