Hello?…Can you hear me now?!… Hello?

Last week I wrote a blog about why I do what I do.  If you didn’t get a chance to read it you can do that here.  This could be seen as part 2 of that blog.  This is all about what my life calling is and how I am getting to live it out here in Gainesville.

There have been many times in my life when I have said I have been called to something.  I’ve said I’ve been called to go to Blue Mountain College. I’ve been called to go to seminary. I’ve been called to go on the World Race.  I’ve been called to ministry. I’ve been called to missions…etc.

For most followers of Christ, this is a typical statement.  But what is my calling?  Yes, I have been called to all the things listed above, and they have been fruitful.  But what is it that drives me, compels me, makes it so I cannot say no and I have to do no matter what situation I am in?

One of my classes last semester focused on just that.  I focused on how God intricately and uniquely made each of us and placed inside of us a calling that only we can fulfill.

I realized last semester that being called to something is something you can say no to and choose not to do.  But you will find yourself living out your calling in areas you never expected to without even knowing you were living out your calling.

So I went through a process of self discovery and conversation with Papa to realize and accept the calling that has been hard wired into me…

My calling is to redeem broken families by being a pillar through support, service, and example.

So what has this looked like through the years?

It has looked like me caring for children so that parents can have some much needed time to themselves.  It has looked like me loving on children and their parents through many different forms of children’s ministry.  It has looked like me working camp and reminding teenagers of the love their Heavenly father has for them.  It has looked like sitting and being a listening ear to many of all ages who have struggled with all sorts of things.  It has looked like me working longer and harder than others so that they could spend more time in relationship with their families.  It has looked like many different things through the years.

Today it looked like sitting down with a small group of men with Alzheimers and playing bingo.  It looked like going out into the town and being Papa’s hands and voice and arms to a world that is desperate for His touch and His truth.  Tomorrow it may look like sitting at a desk working on a computer to make a parent’s trip to the field more enjoyable. It may look like me mailing packets of information, t-shirts, and other resources to parents, so that they feel somewhat prepared when they travel to the other side of the world.

Next week it may look like me sitting down with a large stack of evals and compiling them so that we can reach parents and their Racers better on the next trip.

The point is my calling will look different on any given day, but my calling and purpose remains the same…

To redeem broken families by being a pillar of support, service, and example.

Will you join me as I continue to live out my calling in so many different ways here in Gainesville?  Will you pray for me, that I can live boldly and with confidence it this calling?  Will you join me financially so that I can continue to live and work with this amazing organization that allows me to fully live out my calling in whatever way I can?
